Task Force Troops Help Injured Iraqi Police

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 2005 -- Task Force Baghdad forces came to the aid of Iraqi police who came under terrorist attack in a southern Baghdad neighborhood today.
Task force troops tended the wounded and evacuated them to a medical treatment facility, officials said. Initial reports said five Iraqi police were wounded.
Fighting began, according to reports, when a large number of insurgents, using mortar and direct fire, attacked an Iraqi police station in the Salman Pak neighborhood.
The firefight between the gunmen and the police lasted nearly two hours, with as many as 20 cars on fire following the attack.
Elsewhere, on Feb. 9, a U.S. soldier was killed and another wounded when anti- Iraqi forces attacked a convoy near Balad.
Military officials said Task Force Danger soldiers responding to the scene captured two suspects following the attack. The name of the dead soldier was being held pending notification of next of kin.
On Feb. 8, Iraqi police commandos captured a high value insurgent suspect along with a cache of explosives in Ramadi, officials today reported.
Among the cache of explosives were wiring, detonators, radios and documents, along with information leading to graves of Iraqi National Guardsmen.
Iraqi police said that Iraqi citizens provided information that led to the suspect's capture.
