Gunmen Assassinate Baghdad Governor - Police

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Baghdad governor Ali al-Haidri was assassinated by gunmen in the capital on Tuesday, police and hospital sources said.


Latest headlines:
·Haidri is the most senior Iraqi official to be assassinated in Baghdad since the head of the Governing Council was killed by a suicide bomb in May last year.
Haidri had survived a previous assassination attempt in Baghdad in September that killed two of his bodyguards.
Insurgents have repeatedly targeted Iraqi officials as part of a campaign to destabilize the U.S.-backed government.
